Welcome To My Web Site

This site is all about my hobby as a saltwater reefer. I started with a 9 gallon nano tank.  This is my story...

Image

The beginning:

  • 9 gallon Nano tank by Odyssea - complete set up
  • Saltwater
  • Live Rock
  • Live Gravel

I received my tank as a gift from my friend, Tom, in the beginning of October of 2005.  He helped me purchase the water, rock, and gravel.  After a couple of weeks of letting everything cycle, I began purchasing live animals.

After the first few weeks...

My friend, Tom , bought me 6 Hermit Crabs and 3 Snails.

I finally had something live in my tank!

Everything in the tank was doing well after a week and I purchased the following:

  1. 2 Black and White-Three Stripped Damsels
  2. More Live Rock
  3. 2 Blue Mushrooms
  4. 1 Green Stripped Mushroom

Image

I named the Damsels - Dumb and Dumber(giggle)

Well, the Damsels lived.  That was a good sign.  I decided to get a few more live animals...

  1. Arrowcrab
  2. Six-Lined Wrasse

Awesome!

Image

The Arrowcrab was amazing to watch.  I fell in love with him right away.Image

I named the Arrowcrab - Crabby, and the Six-Lined Wrassed - Sexy.

Call me silly, but I just gotta name everything.  (giggle!)

Tragedy!  I turned all of my beautiful mushrooms, from Tom, white.

A month later...

  1. Green Candy Cane Coral - frag
  2. Pink Xenia - frag
  3. Green Starbusrt Polyp - frag
  4. Orange and Green Polyps - frag

Merry Christmas!

Tom bought me an awesome Green Frogspawn Coral.  It's so beautiful!

It's already January and I don't feel like I have anything in my tank.

Image

I just had to purchase something new.  So... I bought a small Peppermint Shrimp.  He's just a beauty!  He is extremely friendly and I have fed him with a tweezers.  I named him - Bloody.

It's only been a few days and Bloody has already shed.  This is a great sign... he's growing!

Image

Then, I bought an Emerald Crab.  What a little busy body!  I named him - Neptune.

ImageMy friends, Kyle and Joy, gave me a few frags:

  1. Pink Xenia- frag
  2. Pink/Purple Tree Leather - frag
  3. Live Plants

Everything in the tank is doing so well.  I'm really surprised that I haven't killed anything yet.

Tragedy hits, again.  I found my Arrowcrab, Crabby, dead in the tank.

Image

I had the 'itch'.  I just had to get something new for the tank.  I bought two Hawiaiian Feather Dusters.

Image

The Wrasse, and the rest of my inverts, are known for picking on the Feather Dusters.  So far, I haven't seen any of them pick on either one of the dusters.

I've been conversing on the internet with fellow reefers.  I came across the website below and have decided to join in on the fun.

I have just joined the Eau Claire Reef Club.  Our first meeting was a lot of fun and interesting.

I purchased these at the meeting on January 14, 2006:

  1. 1 Blue Mushroom
  2. Green Finger Leather - frag
  3. Yellow Polyp - frag

I'm really looking forward to the next meeting.  Everyone I met there was super nice.

It's middle of January and I just have the itch to purchase something...

I bought a Lawnmower Blenny.  I'm not sure how he'll do in the tank but, I have hope for him.

I've named the Blenny - Spot.  He really reminds me of a dog and has little neon-blue spots on him.

He's so ugly that he's cute!

ImageMy mushrooms, from Tom, are getting color back into them!

This makes me extremely happy.

Hopefully, I can get some good photos of everything.  I have borrowed Tom's camera and am going to try to get some close up's of everything.

This is really an adventure!   I have found a new addiction!

Tom gave me a very large frag from his pink/purple leather.  It's a beauty!

He's hard to see but, he's just to the left of the cone shaped shell.  He isn't so happy right now.  I moved him around but, he'll be all perky later.

I borrowed Tom's camera and got some good shots of the tank... finally.  So, check out the photo page and see them.

Well, so far Spot is alive and eating.  Everything in the tank is looking really good.  There are a few more items on my 'wish list' that I want to get and I'll be done adding to the tank... or, so I say now.

Maybe, I'll have to move on to a bigger tank!

Well... Sexy is going to be going to a new home.  I'm trying to find someone that will trade with me.  Since my tank is only a 9 gallon tank, I should only have a couple of fish in it.  I knew this but, I added Sexy and Spot anyway.  Now, my nitrate levels are too high and I need to get them down.  Having more fish means feeding more which, in turn, means that the left over food will turn into nitrates.

I don't want to kill off my live animals so I need to give Sexy away.  It makes me sad but it's best for my tank and for him.

Oh so tragic!!  Tom and I got Sexy into a bag, met our new friend, David, and Sexy had died.

David and I were going to trade.  So, I ended up buying the yumas from him.

They are doing well, so far.  I'll get a pic of them asap.

Sexy will be missed.

The new yumas are an emerald green color.  Cool, huh?!?

They are a nice addition to the tank - good color.

I apologize for such a delay in the updating of the site.  My computer is currently being worked on and I hope to get everything update here soon.  Alot has happened since the last time I added any information here.

Well, it's now the end of June and I have a lot of updates to put here.

First, I don't have any fish or inverts left in the nano tank.  I have a few snails and a few hermit crabs in there.

As you can see, there is an awesome looking bunch of xeina's on the right side.  Tom gave me those.

There are a couple beautiful new zoa's on the left side.  Those are from a club member in LaCrosse area.

The mushrooms have really grown and have multiplied.  There are small and medium sized babies next to them.

AND...  I have another tank!!!  I bought a 30 gallon from Tom in the middle of April 2006.

I got the live rock in this picture from David.  There are more updated pics coming... as soon as I find the usb cord to upload the new pics.

I have added more live rock since the above picture.  The last 30 pounds of live rock is from the Borgy's.  There is one fish in the tank, last one left - black and white damsel.

There is a colt coral, a leather, some yellow polyps, and a green plate coral in the updated pics.  The green plate coral is from Tom - how sweet of him.

I purchsed new lights - Odyssea compacts on a stand.  They are dual strip 65watt - 12k and dual strip actinic 65watt.  I got it on sale!!!  Only $69.99!!  Great buy!

All of my photos are also here:

June 18th:  Got a FREE skimmer today. from my friends Mary and Dustin, for the 30 gallon tank.  It's a Red Sea Prism Pro Skimmer...  Nice!

Also, stopped at a fish store and bought two blue-green chromis fish.  They have a really pretty coloring to them.  Pictures to come.
